While attending an old college acquaintance's surprise visit, Alex Calder is pulled back into the dark underworld of the City. He learns that his friend, Kim, is married to Todd, the son of influential newspaper magnate, Cornelius van Zyl. Todd asks for Alex's assistance in solving his mother's murder from 18 years ago. Initially believed to be a casualty of guerrilla warfare, a newly discovered letter hints at a much more personal crime. When Todd falls into a coma after a failed assassination attempt, Alex is determined to uncover the truth. However, a sudden explosion destroys all he thought he knew.
